Marfy pattern adventure f1122 day 5

Tonight I had time to finish the sample. I was going to post a picture but it is one of those dresses that looks better on than off. It reminds me of my wedding dress. My father actually talked me into the dress I wore. On the hanger it looked like a sac but my dad liked the color. When I put it on it changed completely and was perfect for me. Anyway I am not sure I will ever wear the dress I just completed because it is polyester and I get so hot when I where it polyester. So right now it is going to hang while I make the real thing.

Shopping

Today I went to the mall looking for idea to create my winter wardrobe. I can't believe it is October 3. The leaves are beginning to turn. It is about 9:00 PM and it is still over 70 degrees. What happened to fall.

Back to shopping. I really don't like the colors this year. Brown, gold, tan, and olive green, not my colors. It makes it hard to try on clothing for style in colors that don't look good.

Tomorrow I should have time to get back to the dress.

Marfy pattern adventure f1122 day 4

Today I re cut the pattern and sewed it together. The shoulders look great. I think that I took to much out of the sleeve cap. I also found that I had to take in the side seams and the front seams in about 1/4 of an inch. The bust area look good. I will modify the paper patten tomorrow.

The only thing is I sure hate to waste what I did today. The fabric I used is a polyester. I need to figure out how to create a facing. I think the dress is actually requires a lining. I would like to put cording around the neck line. I think it would make the dress.

Marfy pattern adventure f1122 day 3

Today I re drew the pattern with all the changes needed. Not one of my favorite jobs. Tomorrow I hope to cut out the pattern in more cotton fabric. This time I am using a pretty cotton fabric. If it fits I will be able to wear it. If not. I will make more adjustments. It is fabric I bought at the Rag shop when it was going out of business.

Marfy pattern adventure f1122 day 2

Today I added the sleeves to my mock up. That created some new problems. I found that the sleeve cap is to high for my shoulders and I need to take out about a inch in the height. Also the shoulders are two wide. I need to remove about a half inch off the shoulder. Also with the adding of the sleeves the bust is to tight. I think it has more to do with cup size. Tomorrow I am going to re cut the dress in another cotton fabric and make it up with the modifications and see where I want to go from here. I discovered after adding the sleeves and adjusting for the cup size I need less fabric over the hips. It changes the hole way the dress hangs.

Marfy pattern adventure f1122

I have chosen this dress for my step-daughters wedding. When I found this pattern and immediately decided that this was the dress. I ordered the pattern and it arrived on Wednesday. Today I cut the pattern out of some light weight cotton that seems very stable and I even remembered to add seam allowances and made a mock up. Even the mock up looked gorgeous until I started to cut the fabric in some areas that were a little to snug. One of the things that I found was that this pattern has very little easy. The bodice fits beautifully. Bust height is perfect. My problem area is the high hip area.

Tomorrow I will modify that and add the sleeve to see how it looks. This will probably be another issue. I measured that pattern to find it measured 14 inches. My arm in the widest point measures 15 inches. I added two inches and will see if I need to do more.

So far I have not found this pattern to be difficult to cut out or put together. It seems like it is very well marked.

Summer Sewing

This summer required some major updating to my wardrobe. Partially because it was very hot and some because my work clothes were beginning to look worn and unprofessional. Most of what I made were skirts and blouses. Many of them were from the same pattern because I just really liked the way the skirts looked. I changed the fabric for variation.

The outfit below is one that I did as a variation of a skirt I saw in the store. That skirt had the side panels cut on the bias. I was not sure I wanted to take on a bias cut pattern but still wanted that look. The stitching done below was done using the stretch stitch on my machine. It took about 8 hours to complete the stitching on the front and back of the skirt.

Spring Sewing

It has been a busy spring and summer and I have been doing a lot of sewing. This was a project that I did back in April. I made a
matching skirt and top out of a light sea foam colored linen. I modified the skirt pattern by adding bias strips between the seams. I got this idea from a designer skirt I saw at a local department store. I was very please with the results. To give the outfit a personal touch a chose to embroider a simple rose design on the top and on the front panels near the hem of the skirt.

Spring Sewing

I have recently completed a few projects. I made this shirt for sizing. I realized after making it it was to large for me and kind of boring. I decided to add the embroidery to the shirt and it made a big difference.

The next is from the same pattern but one size smaller and a different type of fabric. The first shirt (right) was from a linen that did not seem to drape well. This shirt is made from a lighter weight rayon fabric. (Left) I love the drape of this shirt I wore it to a dinner Saturday night and got quite a few compliments. I don't think that would have happened with the solid lilac.

My last project was some pillows. One of my other hobbies is spinning. I have some fiber that consisted of second cuts. The fibers are very short. After I washed the fiber, I needed to find a use for the wool. I made some casing then I made some covers. Here are the end results on the right

My next project is going to be a shirt dress for summer.

Welcome to my blog. I will be sharing some of my projects that I complete. Sewing is my passion. I love tailoring and sewing in general. Because of where I live, I have easy access to New York City and Philadelphia. I also have a fabric store near me that sells wonderful fabrics very cheaply.
